This week has been a little crazy! First off
transfer results...I am staying in Liverpool! YAY! But the sad news is Sister
Merrill is leaving…But now I am now an English missionary! My life is full of changes! My new companion, well... she isn't exactly here yet
so I will tell you about her next week. Now for some stories from the week!
First, my story is about going to Crosby (just
outside of Liverpool) on an exchange with Sister Roerick. We got on a bus and I
turned to talk to the man next to me. His name was Shawn and had a huge golden
steer belt buckle and cowboy boots so I knew before I started talking to him
that it was:
1) Going to be an interesting conversation and 2) He was going to love that I was from Utah/the
west!
I was right on both accounts! =) He was really nice!
He really wants to go to Arizona, go horseback riding and live on a ranch
someday. I don't think he really understands the lifestyle but he will learn.
He asked a lot of questions about the west and then he asked my favourite
question! "Why are you here!?!" It seems to be a really hard concept
for most people that I would leave my life in America and come to England let
alone Liverpool to live. Then I get to explain that I am here as a missionary
and share my testimony of what I am doing and why I love it. They still don't
understand but it is a good way to start introducing the gospel to a normal
conversation! Anyway back to Shawn. He was really nice. He talked to us about
the church and said he had friends that were Mormon. He had seen how their faith had changed them
for the better. He said he had always been interested but didn't want to ask
them about it. We were able to set up an appointment with him and they should
be seeing him this week! I don't know what will come of it but it was a miracle
to meet him!
President Preston said, "If you aren't uncomfortable
you aren't growing! So be uncomfortable...” obviously in a good way! =) I have
to say I don't know when I'm not uncomfortable but I guess that is a good
thing! I have just been learning to overcome my fears and Saturday I left my
comfort bubble more than I ever would have guessed! We went “Sing Finding” at Liverpool
1, a huge shopping centre and a large stop for many bus lines! The four of us
sisters picked a spot just in front of the big bus station. Hundreds of people
walk through there every day and we stood there and started to sing hymns. As
people would stop and listen one of us would break off, talk to them and give
them a Mormon.org
card. Several times it got down to me and one other sister singing. It was
really nerve racking at the start but by the end I loved it! I can't believe
that I did it but it was an incredible experience! We have decided that we are
going to do it more now because it was really good! We had a lot of people stop
and listen or stop and read the cover of the Book of Mormon that we had out. We
want to get big signs and hold them with the Church’s name on them. It was
really fun!
