We went on a Church history tour
this week. It was so good! We went to a museum here in Liverpool to start. They
have an exhibit that is like walking back in time and you go on the street of
what Liverpool looked like and what a ship was like when the first missionaries
came. It was dark, depressing and damp. I don't know how they were so excited
to be here but I am glad they were because I LOVE it here!!! It was really neat
to see how it looked. It was just a flashback thing not about the church but it
was good.
Then we went to see the River Ribble
where the first baptisms were performed. We had a foot race across the bridge
which was fun to watch the elders who got really into it. My Zone Leader runs
for BYU and he competed and won which was good because our zone was all rooting
for him. We also went to the Japanese gardens which was really pretty and had
to do with something but I can't remember now... I have it written down
somewhere. Then we drove past the flat President Hinckley was in when he got
the letter from his dad that said "forget yourself and go to work"
Then it was off to my favourite stop, Downham. It was like stepping back in
time. It was the first time that I thought "this is like Downton Abbey!"
But there was a special spirit there. If
you don't know the history behind it, look up what happened when Elder Kimball
went there! It was an incredible story. Essentially, all but like one person
was baptized and he had to wash his eyes in the river when walking away because
he was so sad to leave the incredible people there! It was so pretty! I would
love to go back again one day. We even had a meeting in the chapel!
So yesterday we went to the temple!
I love the temple! We get to go on bank holidays or transfer days if no one
gets transferred. So we went and it was good. It was so packed they had to have
another session! If you haven't been to the temple recently... GO!!! It is so
good!!! I love the temple! We also walked the shores of a little river thing that
goes from Liverpool to leads and it was so pretty. It was up by the temple and
we watched two boats go through the locks. We were with the relief society
president and her husband and Sam and Sister Merrill and I. It was a lot of fun
and a different world than Liverpool!
This week was a lot of bus
contacting miracles. I talked to a lot of incredible people. One Jewish women
and I had such a great conversation that we ended up missing our stop and
staying on for about three more and having to walk back. It was really good
though. Oh and random thought. Sister Merrill and I decided we don't like to
run for buses... we canter =) I think it is incredible that I can sit next to
someone and talk to them for a while. Some people are really nice and others
like to keep to themselves a little more. It is a lot of fun to talk to people
and get to know individual stories though. I absolutely love it! I can't
believe some of the situations people are put into.
Next, I think this story is funny
and it is a big joke with all of us right now in the area but Mom, first off
know I am safe! =) A homeless man came to church Sunday! He was interesting.
They found him in the kitchen cleaning his nails with a knife. They asked the Elders
to take him out and instead he came and ate the cookies that Sister Jordan was
holding! We didn't really know what was going on because we were just talking
to some members. Then next thing we know the church was being locked and he was
being kicked out. I think he had a little too much to drink. We just stayed in
the chapel and planned until they walked the sisters to the bus. Oh as a side
note: All of our churches in England have big gates around them to keep them
safe from people. It is kind of different to be locked out of the church by a
big gate. But we thought it was a little funny. He is now kind of the joke
because that is such a strange thing to have happen.
