Greeting
from still sunny and hot England! =)
Transfers
are soooo stressful!!! I can't believe it! I am staying in Liverpool! YAY!!!
Also staying in the Chinese work which makes me soooo happy!!! But a lot
did change here! Our district leader and his companion who were the other
set of Chinese missionaries are leaving and they will be replaced by a set of
sisters! Which means two sets of sisters both Chinese. This also means that we
had to move into the four person flat and out of our two person flat! The
elders were in the four man flat and moved to our wonderful perfect spacious
new two person flat. We moved into their smaller, smelly, dirty, and dark four
man flat (can you tell what one was my favourite?). But it is okay!
We
have spent the last three days half cleaning and packing everything and the
other half working. It has been insane! The elders weren't ready to move when
they said they would be so they left the flat in a little chaos... There
was food that had gone bad, dirty dishes in the sink and oven, and we found a
drawer full of white shirts. They have a lot smaller flat but it has four rooms
which is why we had to change. It has two bedrooms and two study rooms. This
flat has been a missionary flat for a while so you can imagine what it looks
like. But we are making it home. We cleaned the kitchen yesterday and threw
away all sorts of things. We also brought our own food and some dishes which
was good because they had three bowls... they have cups and plates and other
things but not much. We also brought cookie sheets and muffin tins and a mixing
bowl and a few other things because elders don't bake so they didn't have any
and our flat had a lot so even taking some we left some!
We
decided that it didn't feel like home so we hung up pictures from church magazines all over and it
feels more like home. We asked for chairs from the office because there isn't
a place to sit down... We plan on eating on a blanket on the floor in our room
so we can all four eat together. Otherwise we would have to eat at our study
desks which would mean apart. We want flat unity so we are going to try and eat
and cook together.
It
is incredible what prayer can do. We were feeling very overwhelmed and stressed
and slightly frustrated with the elders for leaving us in the situation we were
(they didn't even have rubbish bins! We made them bring us some from our old
flat because it had 8) and we prayed that our new flat would feel like a home,
the spirit would be there, and love would be felt within its walls and ever
since then it feels like a home! It is incredible! =) We still have a lot of
unpacking and organising to do but it is good. We like it now which was hard at
first. Our kitchen is about half the size it was and it feels like the whole
flat is just a corridor with doors but it is getting better. I think adding two
sisters will help. Last time there were four sisters in this flat president
swore that he would never do it again and well... do to the age change here we
go! =) We are determined to make it different! But with this it means there
will be four of us all doing Chinese work and three of the four speak Chinese.
So my Chinese should improve! =) I'm finally at the point I can guess what is
happening about 80% of the time! =) That is a huge improvement! I can now say a
simple prayer and this transfer I want to learn my testimony in Chinese! =)
Miracle
time! So First off, thank you for being twins Doug and Don! I was sitting on a
bus and there was a family next to me of identical twin girls and another girl.
A couple then sat down across from me. We were at the back of the bus and the
seats all face each other. I started talking to the family and the couple
listened in. I was able to share our beliefs on family with all of them. They
were all excited to see our family picutres and the ones of the boys! It was a
great conversation starter and got them all interested! It was incredible! Such
a miracle! So thank you for being twins! And thank you for having twins! It
helped me on my mission!
I
have noticed how you have experiences in life so that you
can share them with people on your mission.. I'm finding this to be true. I
don't know if they will ever join but I was able to give them a card and share
our beliefs and another couple heard too! So great!
More miracles! We were on the bus going home. I saw a man working and he was Chinese.
I knew I had to get off at the next stop because this was the third time I got
a prompting. I hit the button to get off and grabbed Sister Merrill. She had no
idea what I was doing because we were going home but she got off. She talked to
him and after I asked what happened. He spoke Cantonese not Mandarin but she
understood him and he understood her (miracle 1).
He wasn't from around here
but took our card and said he would look the church up when he got home. We stopped and stood
there for about 5 minutes at a street waiting to cross but we knew we couldn't.
We felt like we had to go back. So knowing it would be very awkward we walked
back to get contact information (he was from Manchester and just here building
a deck for a friend). We asked him for it and he didn't give it to us but said
he would be there tomorrow and would love a Book of Mormon. We were able to
introduce it (miracle 2).
When we went back the next day with a traditional
Chinese Book of Mormon (we carry simplified and English but don't use
traditional much) and he was there! (Miracle 3). We talked to him more and got
enough information to hand him off to the Manchester missionaries where we have
Chinese! YAY! Such a miracle! And it all started with a prompting on a bus!
Also
the first England missionaries landed in Liverpool on the 19th which was last
week and I was a missionary here! It was 176 years ago!!! Incredible!!!
I
love you all a lot! Go forward with faith and know the Lord loves each of us!
Share the gospel with everyone because it is so happy!
Love
always,
Sister
Hubbard
